LAFFORD  DEANERY  SYNOD

28 Jan 2008 | 29 Oct 2007 !

Minutes of the meeting held in the Winchelsea Centre, Ruskington
at 7.30 pm on Monday 10th March 2008

Rev Canon J Patrick chaired the meeting

1 The meeting opened with prayer led by Rev C Pennock

2 Rev J Patrick reminded us that during this last year of the introductory 5-year phase of New Era, consultations were being held with the deaneries. An opinion-sampling exercise by the diocese had led to serious discussions in individual PCCs - the responses from which had been returned to the Rural dean, who had convened a small group to produce a single return from the deanery. This would be sent to Bishop John after presentation to the synod this evening. The forthcoming diocesan synod was considering the way forward post 2008. There was to be a Reflections Group (chaired by the Archdeacon of Stow and Lindsey and of which our Rural Dean is a member) to look at all the material presented and steer the next stage of the process forward. Mr D Clarke had produced the deanery response and was introduced to present it to synod.

3 Mr Clarke began by explaining his approach and the verification given to this by his professional colleagues.
There had been a variety of approach in the responses, nevertheless it was felt that they did provide a fair representation of different parish sizes and groupings across the deanery. All present were given a full copy of the report and Mr Clarke spoke to each section and fielded questions.
After discussion on Task Two - Release of Capital, synod voted overwhelmingly for an addition to page 5 - that “there should be no use of capital reserves for routine expenditure”   (1 against and 1 abstention)
It was pointed out that - that the Bishop’s questionnaire had not been identical to the Post 2008 questionnaire
- there had been some confusion about the interpretation of questions, PCCs had needed clarification
The report was accepted by synod         (0 against and 1 abstention)
Discussion had been made easier by the informed comments of Mr T Bush and Rev J Patrick.
Grateful thanks were expressed to Mr D Clarke who had produced a detailed, well presented report within a very short timescale.       (The report is filed with these minutes.)
